Classically trained, Maria initially specialised in opera at music college but whilst there she developed an interest in musical theatre, jazz and popular music. She has gone on to establish herself as a singer in constant demand and has worked in various styles of music including rock, pop, jazz, classical and country, both as a soloist and backing singer. This track, Seduction, is taken from her first album Voices, which is made up of an eclectic mix of styles and moods.

Cornwall Today Magazine - March 2013

Maria Heseltine has a varied life. Having studied Fine Art, she was inspired to sing while working at a gallery in Italy, where she heard a local girl give a Puccini recital. In London, she modelled for Eduardo Poalozzi and performed in a Peter Greenaway installation, before training in Vocal Performance at Trinity Collge of Music.

Since moving to Cornwall, she has performed with the aston Quartet and has performed on more than 100 soundtracks for artist Andrew Lanyon.

She now teaches Singing at Penwith College in Penzance. Voices was recorded in collaboration with Clive Parnell, who wrote all the lyrics and music. It's a gentle listen, swaying Bossa nova alternating with wistful songs of love and loss.

Voices Maria Heseltine

"Ten top tracks from Cornwall based vocalist Maria Heseltine are on offer for those listening to her latest CD.

"Maria's smooth vocals and music remind me of dreamy summer days and holiday romances with an edge of mystery. the whole CD's contents tap into memories of movies set in the 60s and 70s. The track "Don't Turn Around" sounds like the theme tune to a James Bond movie that was never made. Stylish, rich and full bodied it comes from the era of Connery.

"The words and music, written by Clive Parnell are sung beautifully by Maria who has worked with many different Cornwall based artists including the composer Douglas Cook.

"Maria has worked with some of Cornwall's best musicians and artists including The Sue Aston Ensemble and sung on film soundtracks for artist Andrew Lanyon. Other great tracks include Shadow in the Night, Winter's Tale and Nothing Left to Say, all of which keep you wanting to hear more. It'll grow on you the more you listen.

"Your voice is unbelievable!"

"Hi Maria I just had to say I thoroughly enjoyed the concert today in the church. You may have seen me sitting near the back! Anyway, it was great and you were fantastic!"

'Between Worlds' by Sue Aston

"Maria Heseltine's emotive mezzo soprano singing surpasses that of Celtic Legend's better-known soprano, Emily Ovenden"

"Sue's new work, 'Between Worlds' is a new departure for her as this time it has vocals as well as instrumental. The first track 'Between Worlds' was a great surprise, beautiful playing and layering of instruments and vocals. It all works very well in this high quality recording. Track 8 'The Final Homecoming' is my favourite as this time it is supported by those lovely vocals once again"

Voices

"I was recommended this album by a friend. What a find! Although not my usual kind of music I was very pleasantly surprised, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The songs are well written and the music amazing! Well worth a listen"

"I came across this album by chance never and I must say I am really impressed. This woman has a wonderful voice, mysterious, alluring even. She strikes as a kind of English Patricia Kaas. This is really worth checking out."
